PARKER DESIGN PROCESS

THE BRIEF:

Create a casual, retro inspired sneaker aimed at National Parks visitors and outdoor enthusiasts. As this project is a collaboration between two brands with well established aesthetics, the design needs to blend both styles and meet the desired characteristics.

  • simplistic styling
  • high quality materials
  • comfortable
  • durable
  • retro styling with modern tech

INSPIRATION

Some visual reference highlighting the overall vibe, possible materializations and colors.

IDEATION.jpg

IDEATION

Quick sketches to get a feel for the blocking and potential materializations and construction techniques. We were pretty certain about the vibe so there's not a lot of exploration with the silhouette needed.

Exploration.jpg

EXPLORATION

Exploring some of the more successful sketches with the addition of color blocking to give more insight as to how versatile the design may be.

ITTERATION

We've settled on some aspects of the pattern, but we want to explore some itterations of it with slight changes. I've started to use color to hint at possible materializations and construction techniques.

Refinement.jpg

REFINEMENT

We're pretty set on the pattern. Just some final subtle tweaks before we begin sampling. I stripped away the color so it wouldn't be distracting at this point.

RENDERED

As the collaboration was with a non-footwear brand, did a rendering to help them visualize how the materials would interact and create textural differences in the style. I never had time to totally finish it though.

DEVELOPMENT

Now the work really begins. Putting together the tech packs together to facilitate sampling. I work closely with the development team to ensure the physical product i a good representation of the original vision.
